The Magpies Nest

The Magpies Nest Room

The main entrance foyer and the adjoining room will become our new Magpie's Nest Room. This room will proudly display and celebrate our amazing heritage. Our club has a richer heritage and prouder history than many of the APL teams, and nearly all Tasmanian teams.

It is about time we show it to recognise our former greats and to inspire the current and upcoming players. The Glenorchy Football Club's 'Magpies Nest' as this room will be called, will be opened just before the season starts in late March. The room will not only display our heritage and our proud history, but it will also sell merchandise, and eventually have a reception open weekdays, on game days and for functions, to assist visitors, members and to sell merchandise.

Everyone who enters the club will pass through the Magpies Nest before entering the bar and finally the stadium itself. This will inspire players, fans and members, and provide a great opportunity to buy merchandise, have a drink or a coffee and perhaps a family meal after the game or training.

The Magpies Nest becomes the physical expression of our soul or fabric that binds everyone in our club. It celebrates our past, present and future in our game of footy, and reminds us of just what a significant club we are.

In 2019, the Glenorchy District Football Club celebrated 100 years of history. Over these magical years, the club has seen golden eras under Roy Cazaly and Jack Rough. The legend that is Peter Hudson, an unforgettable 1980s winning streak led by Danny Ling, an infamous storied 1999 premiership side. A Jaye Bowden inspiring drought breaking TSL Premiership flag in 2016, player, both Men and Women begin their VFL/AFL journeys and our history making first TSLW premiership in 2018.

In Tasmania, there is no other club that can lay claim to such a successful and history making sporting heritage like the Glenorchy District Football Club. From 1957 until now, our Juniors right through to our Senior Men and Women, continue to make history. The Glenorchy Magpies strive to give people from all walks of life the opportunity to be a part of history, encouraging everyone to be the best they can be, build personal identities through football and build lifelong connections in a welcoming environment. We partner with other sporting clubs, local schools and businesses in our local area to make our community stronger.

We aim to be the sporting hub of the northern suburbs. Our club has written over 100 years of great stories, and many of those stories simply would not have been achieved without the valuable support of our local community and partners. We would love you to be a part of our history today and join us in keeping our club alive in our Northern Suburbs.
