A youthful Glenorchy team has shown some promising glimpses for the future before ultimately falling by 53 points to Lauderdale at KGV on Wednesday.

Featuring a remarkable 12 players aged 20 years or under, the RSEA Magpies successfully lured the highly-touted Southern Bombers into a scrap in the opening three quarters, but couldn't finish the job.

Lauderdale converted their opportunities better in the opening term to take a 17-point edge into quarter-time, but the game swung in the hosts' favour after the break.

Glenorchy dominated around the ball and pumped the ball repeatedly inside 50 in the second term, but simply couldn't find the major opening, booting 1.4 and two out on the full for a term they had controlled.

The third quarter started as a similar story, the Magpies piling on the pressure forward, but with the likes of Jaye Bowden, Aiden Grace, Matthew Joseph and Matt Dilger missing, didn't have the firepower to turn entries into goals.

In contrast, the Bombers converted two late opportunities to turn a two-goal game into a 23-point lead into the final term, where their experienced line-up put the foot down as several key Magpies rested late with a four-day break ahead of Sunday's game.

Tale of the Tape
The Glenorchy backline stood tall throughout, with Tom Cleary (7 spoils) and Cameron Goodsell (6 spoils) outstanding in their aerial contests, while Zac Webster (23 possessions) provided outstanding run and ball-winning around the contest.

In the midfield, skipper Josh Arnold found a new role, accumulating 22 disposals, 4 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s and playing an important defensive role on Lauderdale's key mids, while James Deegan (17 hit-outs) was tireless in his ruck dual against multiple opponents.

Cal Daly (17 possessions, 4 clearances), John Geard (20 possessions, 5 clearances) and Sam Rundle (12 possessions) all provided great fught around the contest as the Magpies went +4 in clearances.

The Magpies next face the Demons at North Hobart Oval this Sunday at 2pm.
