Dear members of the Glenorchy Magpie Family,

I don’t need to tell you that these are very challenging times for the Glenorchy District Football Club, the football community and everyone in our wider community.

Obviously, with the new government restrictions now in place, all the core operations of our club have now been suspended – our senior football teams, our junior club, our bar, function centre and bingo.

While our players are understandably disappointed not be taking on Clarence on 4 April after four months of intense pre-season training, we all understand the current situation is bigger than football.

The TSL and TSLW seasons have been postponed until the start of June at the earliest, as has the STJFL junior season. We will keep you updated when any decisions are made about the resumption of football in Tasmania.

The rules around social distancing have meant our bar, function centre and bingo cannot operate at this time. We are investigating alternative ways that you can still interact with our club from a distance, and will keep you updated on this and any re-opening dates as they come to hand.

Helping out
In the meantime, we have reached out to local charities and community houses, including The Salvation Army and the Food Bank, who have accepted our offer to assist their work for those in need in this difficult time.

If you know of anyone in our community needing help please let us know so we can factor that into our efforts to support the northern suburbs heartland, just as it has supported our club for 100 years.

We also ask that you support local northern suburbs businesses at this tough time, and we will soon provide details of our club sponsors so our club family can repay them a debt of gratitude.

I will also provide information shortly of the help we will need as a club to ride out this current storm, which is absolutely going to test our club’s ability to survive like no time in the past century.

In the meantime, please stay safe and take all the necessary precautions to keep yourself and those around you safe and healthy.
